Pet Name Generator

Mr. Zoom and I have discovered that there is a white owl that lives in the palm tree about two houses down from us. As owls do, it only comes out at dusk or night, which makes it really hard for me to get a picture of it.

Why would I need a picture of it? Because we've decided he's OUR owl, even though he doesn't live in our yard. As if we are the only ones who notice him flying around screeching and clicking. He's just so darn cool!

So the other day Mr. Zoom asked me what we should name him. He asks me this because he knows I've got a few strange pet names in reserve that I want to name a pet. We can't actually have a dog or a cat, so we are left with whatever wanders our way and semi-stays - as well as our 9 goldfish in the pond.

The 9 fish are named: Felvis (that was supposed to be for my next cat), Mr. Limpet, Travis, Jeebus, Moby, Cleo, Abraham, Liam (Mr. Zoom's favorite name for a child) and Seamus (which I try to spell as Shamus every time).

Back to the owl.

So we went back and forth for a mintue when I said "What about SHMOO?" Mr. Zoom said "Ah, I knew it was only a matter of time before I activated the koo koo name generator!"

I said "So you never saw that cartoon? The Shmoo? I think it was on for a very short time as a Saturday morning cartoon." "He was like Casper, with no arms. I think. I don't know if he was even a ghost, but he was a white glob." He said "No. No I didn't." in a way that made me think he was sure I was making this up.

So I was then on a mission to prove that back in the 70s there was a cartoon with a character named Shmoo.

THANK GOODNESS FOR THE INTERNET.

I'm not sure I could have convinced Mr. Zoom (or myself, for that matter) that I really had seen a cartoon with a Shmoo in it back in the 70s.

The owl's name is now Shmoo.

You SO rule.

I was over at my sister and brother-in-law's yesterday, and I was lamenting their lack of broadband connection . . . specifically because we needed to look up cheesy song lyrics. I love that you remembered Shmoo and then found Shmoo so we, too, could recall, fondly, Shmoo.

Thank you, Zoom!

Well I'll be damned! For once I actually knew what you were talking about! I better get help! :-)
Weirdly, I hadn't seen though ot heard hyde nor hair of a schmoo since way back then and couldn't remember anything about it except the name and what it looked like. Thanks for jump starting my brain there.

Whoooo knew? Even I remember Shmoo and I don't remember anything. I must have a reservoir for unneccessary nostalgia.

YAAAHHH! Man, if I ever have any kids, (or future pets--guess we could name those kittens *hint*hint*) I'm going to have to look you and Mr. Zoom up for advice. Shmooo--only you could have pulled that one out!

Well hello everyone!

Rev B., my mom and her dial up make me crazy. I know how you felt.

Andy, I'm not sure what to say there, my friend. But anytime anyone understands what I'm saying, it's kinda scary.

Super T, nobody's reservoir is bigger than Mr. Zoom's on trivia. Mine only fires like a machine gun, and then goes silent again. His keeps going.

Spider girl, nice to meet you.

Boston P - glad to make your day a little brighter with my compulsion for weird.

Aisha! Name one of the kittens Skirball?! That's my other reserve weird-o name for a pet. Nobody has taken me up on that one yet.

Poly, he he. Shamu Shmoo. He he.

Barry,

Sometimes I can post from the office (but I can't comment or read it - go figure) - but most days I have to do it after work. As well as catch up on everyone else's blogs. Which is why many times I'm late on THEIR blogs. Yours too.

You can share any story you want here. I swear.
